Working together

Organisations in Cornwall have a long history of working together to improve outcomes for children and young people. In January 2009, Cornwall Children’s Trust formed with a responsibility to oversee the implementation of the 2008 – 11 Children & Young People’s Plan.

Since the end of this plan the Children’s Trust has been reorganised to deliver the Cornwall’s Children and Young People’s Safeguarding and Improvement Plan for 2011/12.

Children’s Leadership Group (CLG)
The CLG is the formal body that sets the strategic direction for partnership working in Cornwall to improve the wellbeing and safeguarding of all the children and young people that live across the County. CLG oversee the implementation of the strategic priorities identified in Cornwall’s Children and Young People’s Safeguarding and Improvement Plan and guiding statute at any given time. The strategic priorities can be found on the homepage.

The Terms of Reference for CLG can be accessed here.

Children’s Trust
The Children’s Trust will still hold 3 meetings a year in addition to an annual conference, to support the development of effective partnership working across the county. These meetings are open to the wider Children’s Trust & all stakeholders that have an interest in improving outcomes for children & young people.

The meetings are as follows:

Monday 18th July: Delivering Improved Outcomes of Children & Young People

Annual Conference: TBC

Inspection
Safeguarding and looked after children's services in Cornwall were rated inadequate by Ofsted following an inspection in January 2011.  As a result Cornwall has an independently chaired Improvement Board to drive forward positive change and monitor the performance of Cornwall’s Children and Young People’s Safeguarding and Improvement Plan. Read more about Inspection here including links to resources & bite sized guides. The Terms of Reference for the Improvement Board can be accessed here.

Workforce Reform
To ensure that children and young people in Cornwall achieve the five Every Child Matters outcomes, it is vital to have a children's workforce that is skilled, well-led and supported by effective, shared systems and processes. People in different parts of the workforce need to be able to work well together across institutional and professional boundaries, focused around the needs of the child and young person.
